How Do You Keep Alive the Legacy of September 11?

In the September issue of Air Line Pilot, we look at a few of the ways ALPA and the aviation world have followed through on the promise that “We will never forget.” Examples include our annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony, grants provided by foundations honoring the ALPA members lost that day, and the Association’s ongoing work in safety and security.

We’ve also shared previously published memories from our members and featured stories on the ongoing legacy on the ALPA website. One member was on the ground in NYC and ramped up an impromptu Critical Incident Response group; another was on duty in the Pentagon when the building was hit. One had just started a flight to Australia and was among the last to know; he boarded a plane back home as soon as possible. Read them all here.

How have you been keeping up the promise to never forget? Share your efforts on social media and help us continue the legacy of 9/11—20 years and beyond. And be sure to participate in our current Call to Action for flight deck security on both passenger and all-cargo airlines.

Don’t forget, ALPA will be webcasting the Remembrance Ceremony starting Saturday at 8:30 a.m. EDT. There’s still time to RSVP and attend in person, too. All ALPA members are invited to join us and help ensure we will never forget.
