On behalf of the National R&I Committee, we are pleased to announce this year’s Open Enrollment from October 1 to December 31, 2017. This special opportunity for the supplemental benefit programs—Critical Illness and Accident Insurance—is being made available for all eligible ALPA members. Both plans are underwritten by ReliaStar Life Insurance Company, a member of the Voya family of companies.

ALPA members will benefit from special conditions negotiated by the ALPA National Retirement & Insurance Committee, such as guaranteed-issue underwriting and lower rates than would otherwise be available.

Critical Illness Insurance

Critical Illness insurance pays a lump sum benefit amount upon diagnosis of a covered disease or illness. Members may use this money for any purpose—expenses not covered by their medical plan, child care, travel, home health-care costs, replacement of lost wages, or any regular household expenses.

Active ALPA members in an eligible class (as determined by ALPA) who are citizens or legal residents of the United States may purchase this insurance. There are no medical questions to be answered or medical tests needed to get coverage.

The ALPA VEBA Trust will sponsor coverage at the $10,000 benefit level for apprentice members.  Apprentice and reactivated members may purchase additional amounts at discounted rates.  Dependent coverage may also be added.

Group Accident Insurance

Group Accident Insurance pays a specified amount for specific injuries and events resulting from a covered accident. As with the Critical Illness Insurance benefit, members may use this money for any purpose.

Active ALPA members in an eligible class (as determined by ALPA) who are citizens or legal residents of the United States may purchase this insurance. There are no medical questions to be answered or medical tests needed to get coverage.

The ALPA VEBA Trust will sponsor Group Accident Insurance coverage for apprentice members and offer discounted rates for reactivated members.  Apprentice and reactivated members may purchase coverage for dependents.
