Spreading Joy and Holiday Cheer

Last week, more than two dozen pilots from several airlines paid a visit to their local hospital in Leesburg, Va. Organized through Pilots For Kids—an international nonprofit organization dedicated to helping hospitalized children—and with plenty of gifts in hand, these pilots helped bring the spirit of the season to the children at Inova Loudoun Hospital. One little girl looked at the group of pilots and asked in amazement, “All these people are here for me?”

Meanwhile, in Memphis, FedEx pilots gave back to their community by delivering food and gifts to the local Hope House—a day care center for children affected or infected by HIV/AIDS, and also a facility that has earned a special place in the hearts of many ALPA pilots. FedEx pilots also stopped by the FedEx Family House with gifts and a generous donation. The FedEx Family House is dedicated to providing shelter for out-of-town families with children receiving treatment at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.

Throughout the month of December, ALPA pilots have been making similar visits to schools and hospitals in Anchorage, Alaska; Chicago, Ill.; Denver, Colo.; Indianapolis, Ind. (photo below); Los Angeles, Calif.; New Haven, Conn.; and Norfolk, Va. We thank all of our pilots for their generosity and for making a difference this holiday season. Keep up with all the coverage of ALPA pilots and pilot groups giving back to their community.

Now as we enter the latter stages of this joyous time of the year, whether you’re visiting family and friends or shipping them gifts, please keep in mind that airline pilots help make these connections possible, not just in this season, but throughout the year. Please join us in extending our sincere thanks for their year-round hard work and professionalism.

To our pilots, if you’re able to be home, we wish you a joyous time with your family and friends. If you’re flying the line, please accept our heartfelt appreciation for your dedication. From all of us at ALPA, we wish everyone a happy holiday and a safe new year!
