ALPA Awards Presidential Citation to Captain Dave McKenney
Colorado Springs Pilot Honored for Commitment to Pilot Education and Training
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) today recognized United Airlines Capt. Dave McKenney with a Presidential Citation at the 61st Air Safety Forum in Washington, D.C.
“Capt. McKenney’s dedication to his colleagues and advancing the airline piloting profession is a stellar example of how one individual can impact an entire industry,” said Capt. Tim Canoll, ALPA president. “Serving as chairman and the voice for pilots on numerous international panels and groups, Capt. McKenney has earned the respect of experts across the globe and is a leading voice in pilot training and human factors. He is a true asset to ALPA and a powerful advocate for aviation safety.”
As director of Pilot Training within the ALPA Air Safety Organization’s Human Factors and Training Group, Capt. McKenney has served as a safety representative for more than 15 years. As an ALPA representative on numerous pilot training and human factors working groups, he has brought in-depth knowledge and firsthand line pilot experience to discussions with the International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Associations, the International Civil Aviation Organization, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the International Air Transport Association.
Representing ALPA on several FAA working groups, Capt. McKenney has helped implement several key NextGen components that increase the efficiency and safety of U.S. aviation. Currently, he is serving on the FAA’s Crew Resource Management Working Group of the Air Carrier Training Aviation Rulemaking Committee.
Capt. Canoll added, “Through tireless efforts to ensure that pilot training programs continue to develop airmanship skills that reflect today’s cockpit environment, Capt. McKenney is a leading contributor in our efforts to improve aviation’s outstanding safety rating.”
