ALPA Awards Presidential Citation to United Airlines Capt. Don Dobias
Greenwood Village Pilot Honored for Commitment to Pilot Training
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) today recognized United Airlines Capt. Don Dobias with a Presidential Citation at the 64th Air Safety Forum in Washington, D.C.
“Capt. Dobias’s dedication to his colleagues and to advancing the airline piloting profession is a stellar example of how one individual can impact an entire industry,” said Capt. Tim Canoll, ALPA president. “Through tireless efforts to ensure that pilot training programs continue to develop airmanship skills that reflect today’s cockpit environment, Capt. Dobias is a leading contributor in our efforts to improve aviation’s outstanding safety record.”
Throughout his career, Capt. Dobias has been an advocate for proper training of crews so they can conduct flight operations safely and efficiently. His expertise has led him to be considered a leading expert in this field, often working with various other airlines to help develop and improve their training.
“Whether training one of United’s newest pilots in the simulator, leading our Training Committee or mentoring fellow check airman out on the line, Capt. Dobias always left a strong impression on his fellow aviators. Ours is a profession where excellence is expected every day, and Don not only delivers such excellence, his legacy of training leadership ensures the next generation of pilots following him can do the same.” Captain Todd Insler, chairman of the United unit of ALPA.
