Girls in Aviation Day: Ypsilanti, Mich.

For F/O Rachel Lindvig (Envoy), the Girls in Aviation Day event in Ypsilanti, Mich., was an opportunity to plant a seed. She explained, “Being able to be involved with girls in the community and show them that aviation isn’t just for guys leaves an impression on them for when they start thinking about what they would like to do for a career.” She said the Ypsilanti event introduced the girls to a variety of aspects of aviation and culminated with a “choose your path” session where the girls could get one-on-one time and ask questions of pilots and other volunteers.

While the Ypsilanti event was smaller in size, Lindvig said the girls made up for it in enthusiasm. “We did have a small group,” she said, “but the excitement and enthusiasm that the girls brought to the day made it that much more worthwhile. Each of the girls had a passion for some specific part of aviation that we were able to explore a little more that day.”

The volunteers reaped the benefits as well. “At the end of the day I was exhausted,” Lindvig said, “but felt like a million bucks. We had such a blast with each girl who was there and even amongst the adults who volunteered we had a great time with one another.”
