ALPA Statement on Sec. 415 of the FY 2015 Spending Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) today issued the following statement from ALPA President Capt. Lee Moak on NAI Prohibition Language in the FY 2015 Omnibus Appropriations Act “Cromnibus:”

“We commend Congress for including this important language in the omnibus spending bill that reinforces with the Department of Transportation that the will of Congress is to deny NAI’s request for a foreign air carrier permit. Despite NAI’s aggressive opposition to this language and lobbying and spin campaign in DC, the inclusion of section 415 is another clear signal that Congress is committed to ensuring U.S. airlines and their employees do business on a level playing field and the flag-of-convenience business model for aviation isn’t to be imported to the United States.

“ALPA has said all along that NAI’s application runs counter to Article 17 bis of the U.S.-EU Air Transport Agreement, and members of Congress on both sides of the aisle have raised concerns for months about NAI, actively advocating DOT to deny NAI. Today’s victory is another step towards NAI’s request being rejected.”

Founded in 1931, ALPA is the world’s largest pilot union, representing more than 51,000 pilots at 30 airlines in the United States and Canada. Visit the ALPA website at www.alpa.org or follow us on Twitter @WeAreALPA.
