ALPA Honors First Officer Steve Jangelis with Prestigious Presidential Citation

Orlando Pilot Upholds Highest Standards of Commitment and Professionalism

WASHINGTON—The Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) will recognize Delta Air Lines First Officer Steve Jangelis with its Presidential Citation during ALPA’s 60th Air Safety Forum, held August 4–7 in Washington, D.C.

A Boeing 757/767ER pilot based at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City, Delta Air Lines F/O Steve Jangelis of Orlando, Florida, chairs the ALPA Airport Ground Environment (AGE) group, and the AGE Committee of the Delta Air Lines pilot group’s Master Executive Council. F/O Jangelis is also an active member of the Delta Air Lines pilot group’s Accident Investigation Team. He works closely with industry stakeholders to promote runway safety and minimize runway incursions and excursions.

“In bestowing a Presidential Citation, ALPA recognizes pilots who have made exceptional contributions to advancing aviation safety, security, and pilot health, and who embody the highest standards of professionalism,” said ALPA president Capt. Lee Moak. “F/O Jangelis’s dedicated work as chairman and member of several committees has helped our industry make great progress in advancing runway safety.”

F/O Jangelis also interacts directly with airport managers and executives to promote ALPA’s vision and to help achieve the highest possible safety standards. Earlier this year, he was appointed to the Steering Committee of Bird Strike Committee USA, an industry group dedicated to reducing wildlife hazards to aircraft on and near airports. A graduate of Lewis University with a BS in aviation flight management, F/O Jangelis has served as a news media spokesperson for ALPA on several issues as well.

“F/O Jangelis’s continuing commitment to developing and maintaining the highest possible standards of safety and integrity throughout the airline industry has earned him a reputation as a passionate advocate on many issues, from runway safety to leveling the playing field for U.S. airlines and their employees,” concluded Capt. Moak.
