ALPA Statement on the Passing of James Oberstar

WASHINGTON––Capt. Lee Moak, president of the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA), issued the following statement regarding the passing of former U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Chairman Jim Oberstar.

“It is with deep sadness that the pilots of the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l mark the passing of Chairman Oberstar. Throughout his long career, he stood as a champion of aviation safety and a staunch advocate for the U.S. airline industry and its workers.

“In his leadership role as chairman of both the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and chairman of the committee’s Aviation Subcommittee, he was dedicated to enhancing the safety and security of U.S. air transportation to the benefit of all who depend on it. He was equally committed to fostering the economic competiveness of U.S. airlines and ensuring jobs for U.S. airline industry workers.

“Chairman Oberstar was a tremendous force for positive change in air transportation. His legacy is one of safer and more secure air transportation in the United States and around the globe.”
