FDX Master Executive Council Thanks NTSB Chairman Deborah Hersman

MEMPHIS, Tenn.—On April 25, 2014, National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Chairman Deborah A.P. Hersman will step down from her position to join the National Safety Council as its president and CEO. The FedEx ALPA Master Executive Council regrets her departure, as she has been a champion for safety over a myriad of transportation venues, including aviation, trucking, and railroads.

“We thank Chairman Hersman for her efforts to make the aviation community safer. We applaud her leadership in identifying the hazards of flying cargo and the recommendations made by her board. When industry and government alike worked to exclude all-cargo carrier pilots from being placed under the newly minted FAR Part 117 operating requirement, Chairman Hersman never let an opportunity pass to highlight this failure and the exposure of safety-related issues it entailed. On behalf of the pilots of FDX, I thank her for those efforts and wish her the best of luck in her new undertaking,” said Captain Scott Stratton, chairman of the FedEx Master Executive Council at the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l.
