WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) today recognized United Airlines Capt. Julio Zamarripa with its Outstanding Airport Safety Liaison award for his efforts to advance the highest standards of aviation safety at Long Beach Airport (LGB) and across the Southern California region. The award was presented during ALPA’s 62nd Air Safety Forum in Washington, D.C.

“Capt. Zamarripa has played a crucial role in ensuring that the airline pilot perspective is incorporated into ongoing projects at Long Beach Airport as well as the greater Los Angeles metroplex. Through his efforts, he has helped advance the safety and security of Southern California’s aviation system,” said Capt. Tim Canoll, ALPA’s president.

Having been involved in numerous airspace and airport projects in the Los Angeles area, Capt. Zamarripa brought the airline pilot’s view to numerous projects which maximized the safety and efficiency of the air traffic system. Through monthly meetings with key stakeholders in the SoCal Airspace Users Working Group, Capt. Zamarripa became highly regarded for his collaborative approach to advancing emerging issues within the region.

“The professionalism and dedication to aviation safety that Capt. Zamarripa brings to his role as Airport Safety Liaison support not only his fellow pilots, but also the passengers and air cargo shippers who depend on air transportation each day,” said Capt. Todd Insler, chairman of the United Master Executive Council of ALPA. “This honor is well-earned, and Capt. Zamarripa exemplifies the characteristics of United pilots who devote their careers toward air safety.”
