Spirit Shareholders Approve JetBlue Purchase

FT. LAUDERDALE—Today, Spirit Airlines convened a shareholder meeting to consider the JetBlue offer to purchase Spirit Airlines. The shareholders voted in favor of the purchase agreement.

“As we move down the path toward consolidation of our two companies into a singular JetBlue, one thing is certain: for the new entity to realize the success and growth it hopes to achieve, management must partner with labor. We look forward to securing a strong contract for our joint pilot group once regulatory approvals have been achieved,” said Capt. Ryan Muller, Spirit Master Executive Council chair.

The Spirit pilots are currently engaged in focused bargaining to amend their 2018 contract. The Spirit MEC Negotiating Committee and Spirit management began negotiations in September 2022 and both parties would like to see an agreement by the current contract’s amendable date, March 1, 2023.
