ALPA Applauds Senate Commerce Committee for Advancing Strong U.S. Aviation Bill

WASHINGTON — In response to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation vote to advance a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reauthorization bill, Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) president, Capt. Jason Ambrosi issued the following statement:

“ALPA applauds the Committee and Chair Cantwell and Subcommittee Chair Duckworth for passing an FAA reauthorization bill that protects and advances aviation safety. By fighting back against attempts to introduce uncertainty, risk, and changes to collective bargaining agreements by increasing the pilot retirement age and rolling back training requirements, this bill will help ensure our country remains a global leader in aviation.

“The bill includes necessary funding for the FAA, supports the air traffic controller workforce and numerous safety measures, including airport and runway safety. Importantly, the legislation also includes improvements provisions related to aircraft cabin air quality, closing loopholes related to foreign registered aircraft operating within the U.S., student loan reform to allow more access to flight training, workforce development grants to develop future aviators, and support for nursing mothers.

“I urge the Senate to expeditiously pass this FAA reauthorization bill that enhances safety and the pilot profession without injecting uncertainty.”
