Statement by Duane Woerth, President of the Air Line Pilots Association, International

"I condemn the decision of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation to seek to terminate the pension plan of United Airlines' active and retired pilots, and applaud the leaders of United's pilot group for standing up to the PBGC. This 'December Surprise' was launched without warning on a pilot group that was considering a tentative agreement that will affect their futures and the future of their airline.

This is bad business and a deplorable move by an entity that purports to care for those who have earned pension benefits over decades of faithful service. As President of ALPA, I will use every resource at my disposal to fight this duplicitous move."
