Keewatin Air Takes Step Toward ALPA Representation—Files Cards with CIRB

The pilots of Keewatin Air filed membership cards last week with the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB), taking the next step toward ALPA representation. Once the CIRB certifies the cards, they will become the newest ALPA pilot group; that process is expected to take three to four weeks.

“We welcome the pilots of Keewatin to our Association,” said Capt. Jason Ambrosi, ALPA president. “We look forward to them officially joining our ranks and adding their names to the 74,000-plus we so proudly represent.”

Keewatin Air originated in 1971 and was the first airline in Canada to have a permanent base in what is now Nunavut. Today it is owned by the Exchange Income Corporation (EIC), joining six other EIC-owned ALPA pilot groups. MEC leaders from those six groups got together at the 2022 Board of Directors meeting to share knowledge and resources.

“We are excited about the pilots of Keewatin joining ALPA and joining our group of EIC airlines,” stated Capt. Tim Perry, ALPA Canada president. “Our voices together grow exponentially, and we welcome their input and look forward to standing beside them going forward.”

Headquartered in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Keewatin Air has roughly 80 pilots flying King Airs, Pilatus PC-12s, and Cessnas.
