ALPA Awards Presidential Citation to United Captain Gordon “Kent” Holiday

Georgetown, Texas, Pilot Honored for Commitment to Pilot Assistance

On behalf of Captain Gordon Holiday, Captain Joseph Genovese (r), UAL MEC Executive Administrator, accepts an ALPA Presidential Pilot Assistance Citation from Captain Canoll.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, at the 62nd Air Safety Forum in Washington, D.C., the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) recognized United Airlines Capt. Kent Holiday with a Presidential Citation for his dedication to helping his fellow airline pilots.

“For over 25 years, Capt. Holiday’s work as an ALPA volunteer has made a tremendous difference in many lives. His selflessness and dedication to providing support to his fellow pilots when they need it the most has helped advance the piloting profession across the industry,” said Capt. Tim Canoll, ALPA president.

An aviation enthusiast and active safety proponent since age 13, Capt. Holiday has been actively involved in ALPA’s Aeromedical efforts for over two decades. From the start, his compassion and patience quickly set him apart, and he has been a valuable resource for pilots with medical questions or who just need to talk.

“Capt. Holiday’s unselfish approach to helping his fellow pilots, and his dedication to providing aeromedical support have been tremendous resources to our members,” said United MEC Chairman Capt. Todd Insler. “This Presidential Citation is long overdue, and it recognizes an ALPA volunteer who has selflessly dedicated his career to improving the profession. We all have benefited from Capt. Holiday’s work, and all ALPA pilots owe him a debt of gratitude.”

After the events of 9/11, Capt. Holiday was a strong advocate to the many pilots who were deeply affected by the tragedy. Regardless of the time of day, or the personal toll it took on him, Capt. Holiday has always been available to his fellow pilots.

“It truly is an honor to recognize Capt. Holiday for all that he has done to ensure that pilots have access to resources that enable them to continue to perform their piloting duties. He truly is an unstoppable, reliable friend to all,” added Capt. Canoll.
