ALPA Statement on House Passage of the INVEST in America Act
McLEAN, Va.—The Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) today issued the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed the INVEST in America Act:
“We applaud the House passage of the INVEST in America Act, which will provide unprecedented investment in our nation’s transportation infrastructure and includes strong labor protections and Buy America rules. Passage of this bill means we are one step closer to creating and sustaining good union jobs, improving the quality of life for workers and their families, and ensuring America will remain economically competitive for years to come.
“We also thank the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee for its work on this legislation, including addressing the significant hazards associated with the transport of lithium batteries on passenger and cargo aircraft. The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), along with the Federal Aviation Administration, have repeatedly demonstrated the expertise and resources needed to research and identify hazards that affect the safe transportation of hazardous materials in aviation. We appreciate the committee’s recognition of that by designating PHMSA the authority to issue lithium battery safety regulations.”
Founded in 1931, ALPA is the largest airline pilot union in the world and represents over 59,000 pilots at 35 U.S. and Canadian airlines. Visit the ALPA website at alpa.org or follow us on Twitter @ALPAPilots.
