Suspension of Atlas Air International Jumpseat

The Atlas Air Jumpseat Committee reached out to ALPA regarding a temporary suspension of other airline (OAL) jumpseaters to/from China due to the novel coronavirus outbreak. The jumpseat, both domestic and international, will be available to all OAL personnel with whom Atlas Air has an agreement, subject to the restrictions mentioned below.

Atlas/Polar Air has instituted the following mandatory conditions as of February 19, 2020, at 0000z:

  1. OAL jumpseats out of or into the People's Republic of China: Will not be allowed. This includes all destinations that Atlas/Polar Air currently serves and any potential future destinations within the People's Republic of China.
  2. OAL jumpseats to all other destinations outside of the People's Republic of China:
    • Captain will query the OAL jumpseater if they have visited or transited mainland China, regardless of time spent on the ground, in the previous 14 days as either visitor or crew. If the OAL jumpseater states yes, then the jumpseat request will be denied.
    • Captain will then make a cursory examination of the OAL jumpseaters' passport to verify that no China entry has occurred in the previous 14 days.

ALPA members who use Atlas Air to jumpseat are advised to review these policies and be prepared to answer the questions outlined above to ensure that your travel will not be interrupted. ALPA will advise members of any changes and when the suspension is lifted.

If you have any questions, please contact ALPA’s Engineering and Air Safety Department at EAS@alpa.org.
