ALPA Applauds the Inclusion of Mandatory Secondary Barriers in Senate FAA Reauthorization

WASHINGTON, D.C.The Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) today issued the following statement after the Senate voted to include a mandate for secondary cockpit barriers in the pending Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization:

“Secondary barriers are a cost-efficient, essential security layer that protect our cockpits from hijacking attempts or other potential breaches. Recent events continue to show that our airlines, and aircraft, remain targets for terrorist activities. The amendment passed today enhances security in U.S. airspace for pilots, the traveling public, and our country.

“We want to especially thank Senators Bob Casey (D-Pa.) and Pat Toomey (R-Pa.), who have worked tirelessly to move this legislation.”

Founded in 1931, ALPA is the largest airline pilot union in the world and represents over 52,000 pilots at 30 U.S. and Canadian airlines. Visit the ALPA website at www.alpa.org or follow us on Twitter @WeAreALPA.
