ALPA's Executive Board Acts

ALPA members, read more detailed coverage of the Spring 2016 Executive Board, including videos of all national officer presentations, plus information on the FAPA-ALPA merger, FAA Administrator Michael Huerta's keynote, the HAL MCF request, and the Canada Board and FFD Group meetings that preceded the Executive Board.

Master executive council (MEC) chairs and national officers are in Herndon, Va., this week conducting the business of the union for the 118th regular meeting of the ALPA Executive Board. As part of the agenda, Board members received reports from the Association's four national officers, ratified the proposed merger between ALPA and the Frontier Airlines Pilots Association (FAPA), and gave their input for the union's strategic plan.

In his opening remarks, ALPA president Capt. Tim Canoll emphasized pilot engagement, acknowledging the tremendous turnout we've received from members on recent calls to action, pilot group votes, and collective bargaining agreement ratifications. "In the span of a year—we've reached 12 new contracts," Canoll said. "Our pilots are indeed focused on their contracts and their careers."

He also discussed how members have engaged to protect the future of our profession—from the "Deny NAI" day of action last week to FAPA joining the union after its members voted overwhelmingly in favor a merger. More than 300 ALPA pilots gathered with hundreds of other aviation workers, picketing the White House to highlight the threat Norwegian Air International poses to the U.S. airline industry, with more than 16,000 ALPA pilots participating in the Deny NAI Call to Action. "We asked for your engagement and, wow, did you answer. You and your members answered with a thunderous response," he said.
