These continue to be unprecedented times for ALPA pilots. In the year gone by, ALPA members were forced to endure the ravaging consequences of COVID-19: the loss of family and coworkers, the resulting decline in passenger air travel demand, devastating job displacements, callbacks due to subsequent government financial relief, and much more. The overwhelming pressure of these challenges and the instability they created, sadly, proved too much for three of our airlines—Compass, ExpressJet, and Trans States Airlines. Providing resources to see these pilots back on the line continues to be an ALPA mission.

The year’s overwhelming challenges required the Association to immediately pivot its resources and work to save thousands of jobs at individual airlines, urge Members of Congress and Parliament to pass worker-centered aviation aid, and ensure a safe working environment for pilots continuing to fly throughout the pandemic transporting essential medical personnel and equipment—and now delivering authorized COVID vaccines around the globe.
