Pilots in the Community

We are committed to improving the communities we live in through supporting a wide range of causes—from nonprofits that better the lives of the less fortunate to inspiring our local youth to become pilots and providing scholarships to assist aspiring pilots into our profession.

Alaska Airlines Pilots Charitable Fund

Much of our charity work is made possible by the Alaska Airlines Pilots Charitable Fund (AAPCF), which distributes grants to qualified nonprofit organizations that serve the needs of the communities in our route network and the communities in which we live.

The AAPCF was established in 2002, and continues to be run, by Alaska Airlines pilots as an all-volunteer nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. The AAPCF is a fully independent organization with no official capacities related to Alaska Airlines or the Alaska Airlines ALPA Master Executive Council, though we certainly have a cooperative working relationship with both.

Support for Children

Pilots in the Community Children's Therapy Center

We are dedicated to helping provide essential services for children with special needs. The AAPCF donated $20,000 to help children in the Seattle area with occupational and speech therapy and early intervention services and help families with parent education and support.

Help for the Homeless

Pilots in the community homeless charity

Through the AAPCF, Alaska Airlines pilots donate $35,000 the BLOCK Project to help end homelessness in the Seattle area. These funds were earmarked to build one home.

Aviation Education

One of our goals is to inspire the next generation of airline pilots to join our ranks. Our Education Committee participates in community events to reach out to young people in our communities. In 2018, we had a booth outside the Museum of Flight in Renton, Wash., during SeaFair, a summer festival in Seattle that encompasses a wide variety of small neighborhood events. During the event, pilot volunteers spoke to hundreds of kids about a career as an airline pilot.
