Delta MEC Elects New Negotiating Committee

At their March meeting in Los Angeles, the Delta MEC elected a new three-member Negotiating Committee which will be negotiating the next pilot working agreement (PWA)— C2015. Negotiations under Section 6 of the Railway Labor Act begin in as little as one year.

Captain John Morgado was elected chairman of the Negotiating Committee, and First Officers Matt Coons and Heiko Kallenbach were elected as members. These line pilots have many years of experience serving Delta pilots—defending and negotiating improvements to the Delta PWA.

John Morgado is an ATL-based MD88 captain. John served as both second officer and first officer representative for DFW Council 47. He has previously served as DAL MEC Contract Administration chairman, and as a member of the Delta MEC Merger Committee. Since 2010, he has served as chairman of the Merger Committee.

Matt Coons is an ATL-based A330 first officer. He has flown the DC-9, A320/319, and the A330. Matt served as Strategic Planning and Strike chairman, as well as vice chairman of Communications for the NWA MEC. He has also served as a member of the Delta MEC Negotiating Committee since 2010, and has been a member and team leader of various Crew Rest Optimization Teams.

Heiko Kallenbach is a DTW-based A330 first officer. He has flown the B-737, B-757, and B-767 aircraft. He served as a MCO LEC Scheduling Committee volunteer and as vice chairman and chairman of the Delta MEC Scheduling Committee. Heiko also served on the Delta MEC Negotiating Committee from 2010 to 2013.

This committee will be working with LEC representatives to quantify their near-, intermediate-, and long-term goals, and identify any opportunities that may lie ahead, including but not limited to C2015. The committee intends to obtain improvements to the PWA whenever the opportunity arises, as directed by the Delta MEC.
