ALPA Launches Hot Topics Web Site
This week, ALPA launched
www.alpa.org/hottopics to address a big threat to U.S.
pilot careers: heavily state-backed foreign airlines that
are coming after the U.S. airline industry, routes, and
jobs. On this site, you’ll find video productions as well as
editorial content that demonstrate how these foreign
airlines, operating without taxes or regulatory burdens, are
endangering your career and what ALPA is doing to protect
our industry. Check back often, as more content will be
added.

site. |

ExpressJet Pilots Meet with ATC
A combined group of more than 25 pilots from ExpressJet and
other airlines with Houston bases, and Houston air traffic
controllers from Ground, Clearance Delivery, Ground
Metering, Tower, and Departure/Approach met recently to
discuss a number of top issues in an event designed to
improve communication and enhance safety. The event was
highly successful, yielding an exchange of questions and
answers from pilots to controllers and vice-versa. The event
will be repeated in the future.
Specific topics included the new Ground metering
frequency, UAVs (drones) and the discontinuation of plans to
build a new runway south of Runway 9-27. The group also
discussed reasons for a number of ATC clearances such as
slowing down, vectors, or denial of direct-to requests.
Information about future events between pilots and ATC
will be published when available. |

P4P Remembers Sandy
Hurricane Sandy made landfall in the United States a year
ago today, and the ALPA Emergency Relief Fund was there for
Association members and their families, offering aid when
they needed it the most. Pilots for Pilots issued 31 grants
totaling more than $50,000 in response to this tragic event.
One grant recipient responded, “I am so grateful to everyone
who made [P4P] a resource for me and other families in
need.”
Remember that P4P provides for the immediate needs of ALPA
members and their families who fall victim to these
widespread disasters. P4P covers early out-of-pocket
expenses to help pilots and their families recover faster.
To learn more about the fund, make a donation, or request a
grant, visit
www.alpa.org/relieffund. Donations are tax-deductible in
the United States and grants are available to all members
and their families who qualify. |
