Cargo: One Level of Safety and Security for All
While many people think “passengers” when they think of the
aviation industry, the world-wide economy is dependent on
the aircraft that carry cargo. Starting with airmail in
1918, the aviation industry revolutionized the delivery
speed of mail, packages, and food. In the latest issue of
Air Line Pilot, ALPA took a closer look at the issues
facing the cargo industry and its pilots, including the
“Cargo Carveout” in FAR 117, lithium batteries, and remote
operations.

ALPA-PAC Hits New High
So
far, 2013 has been a great year for ALPA-PAC. Since January
1, we’ve added nearly 900 new supporters and over
$12,000/month in recurring receipts. Last week, the PAC hit
a new high by adding more than $1,100/month from
contributors over just seven days. This exceptional growth
is allowing the PAC to more effectively educate members of
Congress on our issues and build solid, lasting
relationships in Washington, D.C.
Help us finish the year strong by adding another 300
contributors before the end of the year and reach our goal
of exceeding $1 million in 2013 by participating in
Project Wingman today!
The descriptions of the Air
Line Pilots Association PAC are not a solicitation to
contribute to the PAC. Only ALPA members, ALPA executives,
and senior administrative and professional staff personnel,
and their immediate family members living in the same
household are eligible to contribute to ALPA-PAC. ALPA-PAC
maintains and enforces a policy of refusing to accept
contributions from any other source. ALPA members may learn
more about ALPA-PAC and about contributing to ALPA-PAC by

Canadian ALPA Pilot Leaders Convene for Biennial Group C Caucus Meeting
Earlier
this month, Canadian ALPA pilot leaders convened in Ottawa,
Ontario, for the biennial meeting of ALPA’s Group C Caucus
hosted by the Canada Board. During the meeting, local
council reps and MEC officers representing the 2,800 ALPA
flightcrew members who fly for nine Canadian carriers, along
with Canada Board officers and ALPA staff, networked, shared
information about issues of mutual concern, and discussed
the Association’s strategic priorities in Canada.
The full agenda included a panel discussion, “Government
Affairs: How to Best Affect Change,” during which
representatives from government, labor, and airline
managements shared their perspectives on political advocacy
and gave advice for building relationships with legislators
and regulators. Attendees then broke into groups to develop
and role-play making a pitch to government on a range of
issues important to Canadian pilots. The lobbying exercise
was very successful and will serve as the basis for ALPA to
expand its pilot partisan advocacy initiatives in Canada.
