ALPA and NATCA Team Up for Aviation Collaboration and Safety
|
|
|
|
Several ALPA
representatives,
including ALPA president
Capt. Lee Moak,
presented at NATCA’s
2013 Communicating for
Safety (CFS) Conference
this week. The
Association’s
perspective was
universally praised as a
positive step toward
maintaining lines of
communication with the
controllers who guide
you to your destination
every day.
Moak participated on
an aviation leadership
panel that addressed how
collaborative
relationships between
labor and management
throughout the industry
contribute to improved
aviation safety. “When
it comes to safety, we
generally agree on 99
percent of everything,
and perhaps disagree on
1 percent,” Moak said.
“We can’t let that one
percent define our
relationship. What your
members are most
interested in is
results. This is the
time to come together in
the aviation industry,
labor, and regulatory
environment.”

Registration Now Open for Pilot Assistance Forum, May 7–9 |
|
 This year’s Pilot
Assistance Forum is
scheduled for May 7-9,
2013, in ALPA’s
conference center in
Herndon, Virginia. This
three-day event will
feature presentations
from each of the Pilot
Assistance Groups:
Aeromedical, Canadian
Pilot Assistance,
Critical Incident
Response Program, Human
Intervention and
Motivation Study, and
Professional Standards.
The conference
represents an excellent
opportunity for new
pilot representatives to
learn procedures and
techniques from more
seasoned representatives
who will share their
experiences and
expertise. All pilot
assistance
representatives are
invited to attend the
professional standards
training event scheduled
for Thursday, May 9.

Teens Learn About Other Cultures by Taking Part in IYE |
|
 Many
of today’s teens are
very interested in
international travel and
having the chance to
learn more about other
cultures. These young
people are the ideal
candidates for an
International Youth
Exchange (IYE)—a program
designed specifically
for airline families.
Here is how the
exchange works: IYE
matches kids, ages
14–19, with a similarly
aged youth in another
country. Using the
family airline benefits,
participants travel to
spend two weeks in each
other’s homes—most often
over summer break.
