FDX Pilots Secure Across-the-Board Raise |
|
|
|
The FedEx pilots’
current collective
bargaining agreement (CBA),
which was ratified in
March 2011, provided a
unique duration clause
that allows ALPA to make
the decision to reenter
Section 6 negotiations
after 12 months or
extend the agreement an
additional 12 months,
while securing a 3
percent across-the-board
raise for 2012. This
week, the FDX MEC held a
special MEC meeting with
the agenda largely
focused on the decision
to either make the CBA
amendable in early 2012
in lieu of retaining the
3 percent
across-the-board raise
for 2012 or retaining
the 3 percent raise for
2012 and continuing in
interim discussions
throughout 2012.
After receiving briefs
from ALPA’s Economic and
Financial Analysis
Department, the director
of Representation, the
FDX Negotiating
Committee, and after
carefully considering
the pilots’ survey
results, the MEC voted
unanimously to retain
the 3 percent
across-the-board pay
increase for 2012 and
otherwise maintain the
current CBA through
March of 2013. In the
meantime, ALPA and the
company will continue
interim discussions.
“Our MEC representatives
heard the voice of our
pilots loud and clear
and voted to extend the
current agreement for an
additional 12 months,”
said MEC chairman Capt.
Scott Stratton.

ALPA Hosts ASAP Symposium |
|
|
More than 50 ALPA
representatives,
including line pilots
from 20 ALPA carriers,
joined FAA, airline
management
representatives, and
invited representatives
from APA, IPA, and SWAPA
today in a spirited
discussion about the
status of Aviation
Safety Action Programs (ASAPs)
and current challenges
and trends in these
vitally important
voluntary safety
reporting programs. The
event in Herndon, Va.
was organized and hosted
by the Air Line Pilots
Association, Int’l.
Welcoming the
gathered safety reps,
ALPA’s president, Capt.
Lee Moak, noted, “ASAPs
only work effectively
when we have a true
partnership with the FAA
and our airlines. ALPA
is proud to host this
meeting—we find, when we
work together, we
achieve superior
results.”
The attendees of the
ALPA ASAP Symposium
talked about such
overarching ASAP issues
as the value of
expedited ASAP Event
Review Committee (ERC)
meetings, the balance
needed between thorough
evaluation of reports
and timely closing, and
the value of stable
membership and good
relationships in
successful programs.

Moak to Speak at NATCA Conference, Pilots Encouraged to Attend |
|
 ALPA
president Capt. Lee Moak
is slated to be a
keynote speaker at the
2012 NATCA
“Communicating for
Safety” conference,
January 30 through
February 1, in Atlanta,
Ga. The conference will
cover a broad range of
topics pertinent to
airline pilots, and ALPA
encourages members to
sign up to attend this
important event.
“Air traffic control
is a vital component of
our air transportation
system, and it’s
important that we take
advantage of this kind
of opportunity to share
information and exchange
ideas,” said Moak.
“‘Communicating for
Safety’ provides us
valuable time to talk
with controllers outside
the cockpit.”
“Communicating for
Safety” is a national
high-profile summit,
similar in presentation
to ALPA’s Air Safety
Forum and held annually
by the National Air
Traffic Controllers
Association. Senior
officials from both
government and industry
will present speeches,
panel discussions, and
workshops that highlight
aviation safety. Past
agendas have dealt with
issues like fatigue and
human performance, NAS
and the environment,
unmanned aerial systems,
and accident
investigations.
