Sun Country Pilots Comment on New Portland Pilot Base

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.—The Sun Country Airlines Master Executive Council (MEC) of the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) released the following statement in response to Sun Country’s request to open negotiations on a new pilot base in Portland, Ore.

“On Wednesday, February 6, Sun Country Airlines notified ALPA of its intention to open a new pilot domicile in Oregon at Portland International Airport (PDX) later this year. The Company has asked to open negotiations with ALPA on the new base, as is called for in the pilot collective bargaining agreement. The first meeting between the two parties will be held February 11 in Minneapolis, Minn.

“We look forward to productive negotiations with the Company on how best to create this new domicile. It would be premature at this time to speculate on the outcome of this change or the effect on the pilot group until we open discussions with management.”

Founded in 1931, ALPA is the world’s largest pilot union, representing more than 61,000 pilots at 33 airlines in the United States and Canada. Visit the ALPA website at www.alpa.org or follow us on Twitter @WeAreALPA.
