ALPA Awards Presidential Citation to JetBlue Capt. Thomas Wood

Bedford Pilot Honored for Commitment to Advancing Aviation Security

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) today recognized JetBlue Airways Capt. Thomas Wood with a Presidential Citation at its 64th Air Safety Forum.

“Capt. Wood’s dedication to his colleagues and to advancing security within the aviation community is a stellar example of how one individual can impact an entire industry,” said Capt. Tim Canoll, ALPA president. “Through his efforts, Capt. Wood has promoted a safer and more secure environment for pilots. He is a true asset to ALPA and a powerful advocate for aviation security.”

A former U.S. Marine, part-time instructor for weapons and defense training, and former pilot for Atlantic Southeast and Atlas Air, Capt. Wood was instrumental in the successful implementation of a joint active-shooter drill at Boston Logan International Airport in 2017. During the exercise, Capt. Wood worked closely with law enforcement officers, offering critical input about the roles and perspective airline pilots maintain during this type of event.

“Capt. Wood has long been an asset to JetBlue and to our profession,” said Capt. Patrick Walsh, chairman of the ALPA unit of JetBlue. “All of his fellow JetBlue pilots are proud to see him recognized for his contributions to aviation safety and security.”

Founded in 1931, ALPA is the largest airline pilot union in the world and represents over 60,000 pilots at 34 U.S. and Canadian airlines. Visit the ALPA website at alpa.org or follow us on Twitter @WeAreALPA.
