ALPA Applauds Recent Cabinet Confirmations


ALPA Congratulates Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg on Confirmation

McLEAN, Va.—Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) president Capt. Joe DePete issued the following statement today after the Senate confirmed Pete Buttigieg as secretary of the Department of Transportation (DOT):

“ALPA is grateful for the bipartisan confirmation of Pete Buttigieg to lead our nation’s Department of Transportation. Since the department was founded in 1967, ALPA has worked with every DOT secretary on enhancing aviation safety and security and we look forward to partnering with Secretary Buttigieg as we move forward on many important issues. 

“This is a very critical time for our nation’s transportation systems and there is a lot of work ahead to bring U.S. aviation back to pre-pandemic levels. As the world’s largest nongovernmental aviation safety organization, ALPA has spoken with Secretary Buttigieg and is confident that through strong leadership and working together with crucial stakeholders, DOT is poised to bring many significant improvements to this vital industry. 

“ALPA looks forward to partnering with Secretary Buttigieg and the DOT team on elevating and advancing the issues that affect pilots, the aviation industry, and beyond.”


Statement on Confirmation of DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas

McLEAN, Va.—The Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) issued the following statement today after the Senate confirmed Alejandro Mayorkas as secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS):

“ALPA would like to extend our sincere congratulations to Alejandro Mayorkas on his confirmation as Homeland Security secretary. Pilots are on the front lines of aviation security, and we look forward to working closely with Secretary Mayorkas and his outstanding colleagues at DHS, as well as the Transportation Security Administration, as we continue to ensure the safety and security of our nation’s aviation system.

“Secretary Mayorkas’s solid qualifications and extensive background position him for success in leading DHS and our country in continued development of our nation’s risk-based aviation security system.”
