Frontier Pilots Elect New Union Leaders

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, the six voting members of the Frontier Airlines branch of the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) elected new officers to their Master Executive Council (MEC) to lead the airline’s 1,100 pilots.

Elected were Capt. Tracy Smith as MEC chairman; Capt. Michael Maynard as MEC vice chairman; and First Officer Andrew Fischenberg as MEC secretary-treasurer. The new officers will serve a two-year term, assuming duties on April 1, 2017.

Capt. Smith is an Airbus 320 captain based in Orlando, Fla. A graduate of Golden Gate University, he has been with Frontier since 2013 and currently serves as chairman of the MEC’s Orlando Local Council 169. His previous union service includes stints as a Negotiating Committee member at World Airlines and Negotiating Committee member and local council chairman at Air Wisconsin Airlines. He lives in Denver.

Capt. Maynard is an Airbus 320 captain based in Chicago who currently serves as MEC secretary-treasurer. He previously served as Milwaukee domicile vice chair, Chicago domicile chair, and secretary-treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Frontier Airline Pilots Association, the independent union that merged with ALPA in June 2016. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, Capt. Maynard worked for Great Lakes Airlines before joining Frontier in 2007. He lives in Pewaukee, Wisc., with his wife and two daughters.

First Officer Fischenberg came to Frontier from ExpressJet Airlines in 2015. He is an Airbus 320 first officer and currently serves as secretary-treasurer for the MEC’s Chicago Local Council 167. A graduate of Arizona State University, Mr. Fischenberg has also served on ALPA Safety and Accident Investigation committees at Frontier, and the Pilot-to-Pilot, Critical Incident Response Program, and Family Awareness committees while at ExpressJet. He lives in Chicago.
