			<title>Pilots Applaud Congressional Efforts to Maintain FFDO Funding</title>
			<description>&lt;i&gt;Federal Flight Deck Officer Program Highly Cost-Effective Component of Aviation Security&lt;/i&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
May 9, 2012 - &lt;i&gt;Capt. Lee Moak, president of the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA), issued the following statement regarding the U.S. House Appropriations Committee’s Homeland Security Subcommittee’s action to reject a proposed budget cut and sustain funding at the current level in the fiscal year 2013 budget for the Federal Flight Deck Officer (FFDO) program. Currently, the FFDO program fiscal year 2012 funding is $25 million. President Obama has proposed to cut the program’s funding by $13 million in his fiscal year 2013 budget.&lt;/i&gt;&lt;br /&gt;

			<title>TSA Security Alert</title>
			<description>&lt;p&gt;May 3, 2012 - The Transportation Security Administration notified ALPA this week that the U.S. government has confirmed that terrorists continue to show an interest in targeting aviation-sector facilities and conveyances. In light of the one-year anniversary of Osama bin Laden’s death earlier this week, pilots should remain alert for any indication that terrorists may use new methods in their attempts to thwart security measures.&lt;br /&gt;

			<title>ILS Fluctuations Caused by Movements through ILS-Critical Areas</title>
			<description>&lt;p&gt;April 19, 2012 - The FAA has released an Information-for-Operators (InFO) bulletin due to reports from both pilots and air traffic controllers of instances of localizer and/or glideslope fluctuations while the aircraft is navigating on the ILS. This phenomenon may occur when aircraft or vehicles are moving through the ILS-critical areas and is due to interference with the ILS signals.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
If flying a coupled approach, the aircraft autoflight system may follow the ILS fluctuations, resulting in unexpected pitch, roll, or autopilot behavior. 			<title>ALPA Conducts Accident Investigation Training</title>
			<description>&lt;p&gt;April 12, 2012 - ALPA’s Accident Investigation Course (AI2) was held this week in Herndon, Va. Twenty-four pilot volunteers from 15 ALPA pilot groups, as well as representatives from NATCA and an airline safety department, learned about U.S., Canadian, and ICAO accident investigation procedures.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The air safety representatives who attended this week’s course were instructed by members of the Accident Investigation Board and the Human Factors and Training Group, as well as ALPA staff from the Engineering and Air Safety, Legal, and Communications departments. This course curriculum prepares pilots to serve as ALPA coordinators or investigative group members in an investigation for a member pilot group anywhere in the world.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;</description>

			<title>ALPA Attends ALEAN Conference</title>
			<description>&lt;p&gt;March 20, 2012 - ALPA security representatives attended the Airport Law Enforcement Agencies Network (ALEAN) spring conference in New Orleans, March 13–14. During his remarks, keynote speaker John Pistole, administrator of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), addressed the need for a “risk-based” approach to aviation security and praised the partnership between TSA, labor, industry, and state and local airport law enforcement agencies. The administrator specifically cited the ALPA- and Airlines for America-sponsored Known Crewmember program as a successful example of risk-based screening and discussed the possibility of expanding similar programs in the future, such as &lt;i&gt;PreCheck&lt;/i&gt;.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
An FBI speaker offered an overview of the agency’s Civil Aviation Security Program and discussed counterterrorism efforts conducted by 42 different agencies within the National Joint Terrorism Task Force. ALPA representatives, FAMS Director Robert Bray, and Assistant Director for Flight Operations Brett Gunter discussed issues of mutual interest, including future goals and management of the Federal Flight Deck Officer (FFDO) program.&lt;br /&gt;

Discussions addressed concerns raised during the most recent FFDO stakeholder meeting in November 2011. Five KCM access points at BOS are scheduled to begin admitting pilots on Tuesday, October 25th. KCM was previously installed, and is operational, at Chicago O’Hare, Miami, Seattle-Tacoma, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Phoenix, and Washington Dulles airports.&lt;br /&gt;

Tim Flaherty (DAL) of the Air Traffic Services Group—to serve as panelists at a safety forum on professionalism. As practitioners in their respective fields, each of these ALPA leaders will address the subject of enhancing professionalism.&lt;br /&gt;

The purpose of the forum is to gather information on the screening, selection, and training of pilots and air traffic controllers and on methods to reinforce professionalism and excellence. February 26, 2010 - The Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) stands in adamant opposition to an ill-conceived proposal by Sen. Jim DeMint to use cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder information for discipline, rather than as it was intended, because the proposal poses a serious risk to aviation safety.&lt;br /&gt;

“ALPA adamantly opposes this misguided legislation that seeks to use cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder information to punish individual pilots, rather than to promote and support the proactive safety culture that our industry needs to protect our passengers, crews, and cargo,” said Capt.
