Sun Country Pilots Approve New Contract

MINNEAPOLIS—Sun Country Airlines pilots represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) have overwhelmingly approved a new five-year contract that will immediately provide substantial pay raises and other improvements for aviators at Minnesota’s hometown airline.

After two weeks of voting, SCA pilots ratified a tentative agreement reached on September 23 by a margin of 87 to 13 percent, with 94 percent of the airline’s more than 250 pilots casting ballots. The agreement came after five years of direct negotiations between the pilot group and Sun Country Airlines management and federal mediation supervised by the National Mediation Board.

“This new contract appropriately recognizes our pilot group for their contributions to the airline’s current and future success, as well as our sacrifices in years past,” said Capt. Brian Roseen, chairman of ALPA’s Sun Country Master Executive Council. “We are proud to serve Sun Country with global professionalism combined with hometown pride.”

Under the terms of the new contract, pilots will receive raises ranging from 20 to 30 percent on date of signing, depending on seniority. All pilots will receive across-the board raises of three to eight percent in each of the remaining four years of the contract, as well as higher company-paid retirement contributions and improved work rules. The new contract will become amendable on Nov. 1, 2020.

Representatives of ALPA and the airline formally signed the new contract October 29 at Sun Country’s hangar on the west side of Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

Founded in 1931, ALPA is the largest airline pilot union in the world and represents more than 52,000 pilots at 30 airlines in the United States and Canada, including more than 250 Sun Country pilots. Visit the ALPA website at www.alpa.org or follow us on Twitter @wearealpa.
