2019 Pilots of ALPA

It’s well known that ALPA is the voice of airline pilots in Washington, D.C., and Ottawa, but the Association’s influence stretches far beyond these two national capitals. Throughout North America and around the world, ALPA tirelessly advocates to advance both the airline piloting profession and the industry.

As part of its mandate, the Association strives to negotiate and enforce the strongest and most progressive contracts for its members, keep aviation the safest and most secure form of travel, and promote the profession to future generations of aviators. ALPA is able to accomplish all of this and more through the support and direction of its more than 61,000 U.S. and Canadian members.

In 2018, Kalitta Air and Sky Regional pilots voted for ALPA representation, increasing the Association’s membership numbers and strengthening this union’s voice. New agreements bargained at Calm Air, ExpressJet, Frontier, JetBlue, Piedmont, Spirit, and WestJet and contract enhancements at Hawaiian brought gains to ALPA pilot groups.

ALPA members made their voices heard in the halls of Congress and Parliament, urging lawmakers to keep safety at the forefront. Due in large part to these efforts, Congress passed a landmark FAA reauthorization bill and Transport Canada issued long-awaited updated science-based flight- and duty-time regulations.

Entering 2019, ALPA's pilot groups face both challenges and opportunities as they work to enhance their careers and profession—all while ensuring that North American aviation remains the global airline industries' gold standard.
