United Master Executive Council Elects Captain Heppner Chairman
CHICAGO, ILL., October 18, 2011--Captain Jay Heppner, a 26-year veteran of United Airlines and a long-time representative of the pilots of United Airlines, was elected Chairman of the United Master Executive Council of the Air Line Pilots Association this afternoon.
Captain Rick Perry, an Airbus Captain, 19-year UAL veteran and another long-time ALPA volunteer, was elected Vice Chairman. First Officer Mike Hamilton, a Boeing 767 First Officer and 13-year United veteran, was elected Secretary/Treasurer.
The new slate of officers will begin their two-year terms on January 1, 2012.
Captain Heppner, a 777 Captain based in San Francisco and current Chairman of the MEC Negotiating Committee, will succeed Captain Wendy Morse, who elected not to seek a second term.
“This election is about our new contract,” said Captain Heppner. “There are assuredly other issues that need to be resolved in parallel, but none so critical as our Joint Collective Bargaining Agreement.”
“It has been an honor to serve my fellow United pilots as their Master Chairman over the past two years,” said Captain Morse. “I stand ready to work with Captain Heppner to ensure that there is a smooth transition, and to help us all achieve the Joint Collective Bargaining Agreement we have long earned and deserve.”
