Capt. Moak Presents Presidential Citation Awards for Safety, Pilot Assistance

August 7, 2014 - ALPA president Capt. Lee Moak presented Presidential Citations Thursday to First Officer Steve Jangelis (DAL) and Capt. Aaron Fry (ARW) for their outstanding contributions to safety and pilot security, respectively.

F/O Jangelis became the “poster child” of ALPA’s “Save Our Skies” campaign this summer, especially the effort to Deny NAI, and his contributions go far beyond just that. He chairs the ALPA Airport and Ground Environment (AGE) group and the AGE Committee of the Delta pilot group’s MEC and is an active member of his pilot group’s Accident Investigation Team. Just this year, he was named a member of the Steering Committee of Bird Strike Committee USA and regularly interacts directly with airport managers and executives to promote ALPA’s vision to help achieve the highest possible safety standards. For these reasons and more, F/O Jangelis received the 2013 Presidential Citation.

Capt. Fry has been chair of the Air Wisconsin pilot group’s Pilot Assistance Committee for two years, helping provide guidance and help to pilots facing challenges in any aspect of their professional or personal lives that may affect their work. He’s been instrumental in introducing the Human Intervention Motivation Studies (HIMS) program to Air Wisconsin. Without his dedication to enhancing and promoting the health and well-being of his fellow ALPA members, many pilots may have lost their careers and their livelihoods. For these reasons and more, Capt. Fry received the 2013 Presidential Citation.

Congratulations to both men, and thank you for your continued service to the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l.
