Headline: United Pilots to CEO: “Don’t Remove Secondary Barriers”
October 26, 2012 - CNBC aired a report today regarding the company's decision to remove secondary barriers from 787 aircraft. Click here to see that report.

On August 31, 2012, United MEC Chairman Capt. Jay Heppner and Continental MEC Chairman Capt. Jay Pierce wrote a letter to Jeff Smisek, calling on the United CEO to reverse the company's decision to remove secondary barriers from all 787 aircraft. "We must retain the lessons learned from 9/11 and remain vigilant to continued threats, including taking all steps necessary to advance the goals of safety," the two pilot leaders said in their letter. "Yet now, United management seems to have forgotten about its commitment to safety and the importance of cockpit protections to the airline, the industry and the nation. Safety is paramount and an airline that is unsafe, on any level, is unacceptable."
