July 30, 2010 - On July 27, the U.S. House of Representatives unanimously passed the Securing Aircraft Cockpits Against Lasers Act of 2010 (H.R. 5810). Sponsored by Rep. Daniel Lungren (R-CA), H.R. 5810 would amend Title 18 of the United States Code to establish “criminal penalties for knowingly aiming a laser pointer at an aircraft or its flight path,” ranging from a fine to up to five years in prison.
